Syed Tirmizi, MD
 

Syed Tirmizi, MD is the Director, Health & Medical Informatics at the Veterans Health Administration.  

Trained in the U.S. as an Internist, Dr. Tirmizi was Chief of Medicine & Primary Care at several teaching hospitals from 1993-2003. In July 2003, he moved to Veterans Health Administration headquarters in Washington, DC to champion health informatics at the national level.

Dr. Tirmizi is currently working with other federal agencies and universities to develop an online Health Informatics training program. He also coordinates the post doctoral medical informatics fellowships offered at eight VA medical centers. He is leading federal efforts in collaboration with private health care systems to share clinical knowledge and decision support tools to enable better, safer and more efficient care.  

Dr. Tirmizi has served on several medical and information technology expert panels and has been a speaker at a number of domestic and international conferences. He is an associate professor at the George Mason University.  He is on the advisory board for the 4th Annual World Healthcare Innovation & Technology Congress.
